All Ireland Junior Canal Championships 2016

The NCFFI All Ireland Junior Canals Championship took place on the Grand canal at Daingean on 21st May. This years event coincided with World Fish Migration Day a global event connecting fish, people and rivers.  Twenty one keen juniors turned up on the day with a fantastic 9 anglers in the under 23’s who fished a separate section of the canal.
Weather conditions were expected to be bad but in the end only a couple of heavy showers dampened the day. All anglers caught fish!
The under 23 section, organised by Shane Kavanagh, was a tightly fought match for 4 hours with very little difference in weights.  The other sections, organised by John Connolly and Sean Ward , fished for 3 hours with a notable big catch in the under 18 section by winner Austin Conway of Naas & District Angling Club. Our Novice section designed for those new to competition angling allows assistance and guidance from the organisers or accompanying adults and is designed to help introduce more juniors to the thrill of competition angling.
