In 2025, with support from Sport NI and funding from the National Lottery Good Causes, our newly appointed Coarse Angling Development Officer launched a new programme for schools across Northern Ireland.
This initiative, delivered by NCFFI-qualified coarse angling coaches, introduces students to the fundamentals of angling, offering expert guidance as they embark on their exciting journey into the sport.
“Reeling it in” in a safe and welcoming environment is the first step before heading to the bankside. Students gain hands-on experience, learning core skills and techniques that set them on the path to becoming skilled anglers. Beyond physical activity, angling teaches valuable life skills, including patience, problem-solving, and environmental awareness.
This is just the beginning of a lifelong activity that can inspire and empower students for years to come. The goal is for students to establish their own angling club and work towards certification through the Angler Skills Awards pathway.
