Covid19 Update – It’s not time to wet the line just yet
The NCFFI having provided a proposal for a phased approach for a return to angling to our Sporting bodies, both North and South welcome the Irish governments considerations in the roadmap presented yesterday (01May). Our request involved cohesion across the 32 counties and we therefore hope to see a similar approach with restrictions relaxed for anglers in Northern Ireland within similar timelines.
The angling community has played their part in helping to eliminate the coronavirus and supported our front-line workers and health services to save lives.
We ask that you continue to do so and leave the rods at home this holiday weekend.
All club activities remain suspended with no competitions, coaching or training taking place. Fishing remains suspended on the Waterways Ireland navigation, ESB and IFI managed fisheries are closed as is the Public Angling Estate in Northern Ireland.
Our executive are working this weekend on our Angling Road Map. In the meantime remain vigilant, stay safe and we all look forward to a responsible return to fishing soon.

The NCFFI continues to closely monitor the Covid19 outbreak guided by the fact that the angling community has a responsibility to avoid non-essential social contact to help eliminate the coronavirus. #STAYSAFE

In line with the latest government advice all club activities remain suspended with no competitions, coaching or training taking place. #LEAVETHERODSATHOME
Up and coming NCFFI events scheduled for April and May are postponed to a later date, this includes the Feeder Club Championships & Qualifiers which will be reinstated sometime in the future. Regrettably the popular angling festivals run by many of our member clubs bringing angling tourism to rural areas remain suspended.

A message for our clubs based in Northern Ireland from Sport NI thanking us and requesting that we continue to keep sharing the message among our members where we can this Easter. Health and Social Care (HSC) would like to communicate their appreciation for your ongoing support from you all to share key guidance and messages through your networks. During this time of uncertainty you continue play a vital leadership role within the sporting and wider community.
They want to recognise that our local population value the support and advice that you provide and are grateful for the opportunity to share information through your networks. It is important that we reach as many people as possible with the correct information, particularly ahead of the Easter Holidays. Dissemination through the sporting, community and voluntary sectors is essential to achieving this.
It is vital we all continue to remind people that by staying at home and adopting social distancing, they are making a real difference. At this time complacency remains the greatest challenge but by coming together to make this sacrifice for the greater good we will save lives.
They recognise that this isn’t easy, particularly for older and vulnerable members of society. Easter is traditionally a time for families to come together in celebration, and we appreciate that this year this isn’t simply possible in the usual way.
It cannot go without saying that there have been some amazing stories showing how, as a society, we are all finding new and innovative ways to support each other and to keep in touch during this very difficult time. We must continue to do this in the days and weeks ahead.
For these reason, the HSC would like to ask for your help to promote some important Public Health information via your networks and directly to your members during the Easter Holidays. They have attached a fact sheet for your use here

DAERA Angling Waters Closed
Anglers told to stay at home as fishing waters are closed
All DAERA angling waters are to be closed with immediate effect in the continuing fight against the spread of Covid-19, Fisheries Minister Edwin Poots MLA has announced.
“The message is clear to our anglers, many of whom are in the older age group, stay safe – stay home,” the Minister said.
“We know many of you would think nothing of travelling long distances to get to some of our best angling waters, but right now is not the time. The last thing we want is for you to catch this deadly virus,” he added.
The move has been supported by NI Water with some of the angling sites on their land.
Pedestrian access will still be possible to allow people to get their daily walk, cycle or jog.
