Brenton Sweeney says; “This year saw an increased number of anglers put their names forward for Team Ireland section and I would like to thank all those who applied. It’s an indication of the popularity of our sport for which we have an increasing number of events on the calendar hoping to give everyone the chance to get involved. I would like to congratulate those who made the world championship team and look forward to our travels to France with them and the extended squad this year. Thank you to all involved for their commitment which sees ever increasing costs. We are not fully funded and whilst we thank the NCFFI for their funding, Daiwa UK and Sonubaits for their investment in our tackle requirements our members shall be running a draw to raise additional funds to help the teams on their way.”

Additional qualifying anglers will form a ten-man squad for the annual international friendly team event on 4th April which will this year see domestic teams representing Lithuania, Poland, Romania and for the first time Bulgaria. Details to be announced.
