River Blackwater, The Argory

Coarse Angling on the River Blackwater

The River Blackwater in County Dungannon. Northern Ireland has long been a favourite spot for the coarse angler. The river flows mostly through the counties Armagh and Tyrone at times crossing the border into County Monaghan.

There are two access points for anglers available at The Argory National Trust Estate, Bonds Bridge and the new ‘members only’ match stretch known as The Argory. In 2021 the Ulster Coarse Fishing Federation leased the riverbank from the National Trust for the benefit of its members and supported by the National Coarse Fishing Federation of Ireland, NCFFI and Sport Northern Ireland plan to enhance the facility to provide up to 60 fishing pegs on the river.

BONDS BRIDGE

A car park is available to those wishing to fish from the 22 pegs upstream from Bonds Bridge. Access is available on foot only but the pathway is suitable for trolleys. A permit is required to reserve this stretch for organised events.

We plan to add a further 10 pegs upstream of the Argory Canoe jetty over time which will create a 30 peg stretch.

THE ARGORY

Further upstream of the Bonds Bridge section is a newly accessible stretch of the river providing 18 pegs specifically for the match angler. (In time we aim to increase this to 30). This section known as The Argory is available to UCFF member clubs with permits for organised events only. A private laneway provides access for vehicles with parking behind your peg.

Reservations must be made one week in advance, contact John Taggart using the form below. View reservations at www.facebook.com/fishinginulster/events

PERMITS ARE REQUIRED

A permit running 01Jan to 31Dec is available to UCFF member clubs for £150. This will allow for match booking of either stretch subject to availability.  Member clubs who do not hold the season permit may purchase a match permit for £50.

Member of permit holding clubs may fish at their leisure at Bonds Bridge if there are no events taking place, but The Argory stretch is available for pre-booked organised events only.

If your club wishes to purchase a permit please contact Geoffrey McKinley using the form below.
