European Police Championships 2019

Two years of organisation by the An Garda Síochána Angling Club saw the event held on Lough Muckno at the end of August. The reigning champions of two years hosted over 100 anglers representing Police forces from England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Holland, Germany, Hungary and Belgium assisted by NCFFI members and Inland Fisheries Ireland
Competition was rife throughout the week as Team Ireland, were fancied for the hat-trick. However, although in second position at the end of day one with 32 points, day two proved difficult for the host team on some unfancied pegs. This allowed Team England to move into second place with Team Ireland finishing in third.
Congratulations to Team Germany who were victorious in each of the National and Regional events with Harald Seifert the best individual.
The event concluded with a grand presentation at Treacy’s Hotel, Castleblayney attended by 4 x World Champion Bob Nudd and George Kendrick of Browning Europe
The championships which saw over 100 anglers in the area for the week was a welcome boost to the local economy with a number of competitors taking the opportunity to take in sight-seeing and indeed other angling competitions for a further week.
