An open day designed to share tactics and techniques for fishing on the world stage saw ten youth anglers come together at Lough Muckno yesterday. The group of talented young anglers aged from 10yrs up included newcomers and former team members representing clubs from across the island. International Angler James O’Doherty who has fished several international events both at youth and senior level also came along to share his experiences of fishing on the world stage.
The day started with some demonstrations on the required set up for international style fishing and finished with some informal competition during which the young anglers displayed an array of talent and some impressive skills. Plenty of fish were caught by everyone on the productive Concra Wood section of the lake which gave ease of access for the participants.
With uncertainty around travel to the World Youth Championships this year, Team Manager Gavin Walsh, and U20 Assistant Manager Nick Richards are instead using the time ahead to encourage more interest from the junior anglers with a view to presenting teams in U15, U20 and U25 categories in 2022.
