In 2012 Gavin Walsh took on a task that generations of Irish coaches had avoided. He took our junior development to the next level and through his dedication and support we now have Youth Team Ireland on the world stage. The development conntinued under the direction of Jack Tisdall who led the teams to compete on home soil at the World Youth Angling Championships in 2017. The role has now returned to Gavin Walsh for the next three year period.
Team Selection
International Team Managers are responsible for the selection process and running of qualifiers, the management and training of the team members, sponsorship, the coordination and safeguarding of the teams in overseas travel and are bound by the general principles in the Constitution and Protocol & Policy documents with the support of the Executive.
The Youth Team manager will hold qualifiers to select the U15 and U20 teams with the best results from 3 out of 4 matches to count. The U25’s are invited to take part in the qualifiers but with the team selection similar to that of the Senior Float Team.
Any affiliated member or member of a club may apply to join the teams. You are required to hold a ROI/UK & Northern Ireland passport. FIPS-ed rules allow for one Foreign National – non-passport holder on the team, residency rules apply.
It is our intention to provide youth anglers the opportunity to represent Ireland and field teams in all age categories at the World Youth Angling Championships annually. Already we have a number of shining young anglers on the path for international recognition and ready to represent us at international championships.
